Roblox is a platform that enables developers and individuals to build and program their own computer games. The Roblox community also enables users to engage with other Roblox games published by fellow users. It started out in 2004, when founders David Baszucki and Erik Cassel wanted to form a platform for user-generated gaming content.

The platform – originally known as DynaBlocks – was rebranded to Roblox in 2006 and it’s remained that way ever since. All Roblox games are free to play, with in-game game purchases the way for developers to monetise their creativity. Users purchase using a cryptocurrency known as Robux. By summer 2020, some 164 million people used the Roblox platform monthly.

With the recent surge in popularity for roblox, many investors are wondering if now is the time to buy RBLX.US stock. However, roblox is not the only company in the game industry and there are several competitors that investors should be aware of before making a decision.

Roblox Corporation's (RBLX.US) main competitors are Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (TTWO), Electronic Arts, Inc. (EA), Activision Blizzard, Inc. (ATVI) and Live Nation Entertainment, Inc. (LYV).

In March 2021, Roblox took the decision to go public via the New York Stock Exchange. During its first day of trading, Roblox shares were traded at a price of $69. Its share price has fallen over 43% since becoming a listed company. Growth stocks have, unsurprisingly, fallen out of favour as the economic headwinds pick up. The Roblox share price has also fallen due to falling engagement levels, although the company is not unduly concerned by this as the levels were inflated during the Covid-19 pandemic.

With the company at something of a crossroads, the Roblox share price appears to have plateaued with a support level between $23-$24 per share. Some investors are also deterred from investing in Roblox at present due to its hefty price-to-sales ratio of 10.4.
